“I’ve decided to DONATE a substantial portion,” I announced.
Silence. So heavy it could suffocate.
Patricia’s expression FROZE.
Robert blinked.
“I’m sorry… donate?”
“Yes!” I beamed. “To a charity for single mothers. Because, you know… my mother was one.
And I owe everything to her sacrifices.”
The way their faces fell… it was priceless.
Jake stiffened beside me. “Wait… all of it?”
I shrugged. “Not all.
I kept enough for us, but the rest? It’s going to women who genuinely need it.”
Patricia’s hands trembled. “B-But… what about family?”
I tilted my head.
“Oh, don’t worry! I saved some for Jake and me. But you know what they say, ‘Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day…’”
The aftermath?
Glorious.
Patricia sobbed. Robert ranted. Jake fumed.
But I?
I slept soundly that night.
Because for the first time in a long time… I was free.
