Mike, I’m done with you, I said. I will not allow you to continue bringing me down.
I will end my relationship with you.
Mike’s mouth moved around like a fish out of water, but nothing came out.
His expression was one of shock and rage, but now it didn’t matter. His opinion no longer had any influence over my life.
We moved toward the door after Karen wrapped her arm around me. My other friends started getting together and offering words of encouragement to us.
However, Mike was far from done.
You won’t like this!
He yelled at me, ” You will be the only elderly woman like you. You will be without a home.
” In point of fact, since the cabin is in my name, the worst thing that could happen to me is to spend the rest of my life on vacation,” I shot back laughing over my shoulder. As we left the celebration, it appeared as though the weight of years of suffering had been lifted off my shoulders.
As we drove to my favorite restaurant, Karen’s car carried us all.
I had no idea that there would be a final surprise for me.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the inviting lighting, the delicious food aroma, and the relaxing music. As soon as we settled into a comfortable booth, the mood improved.
To Emma,” Karen exclaimed as she raised her glass. I grinned as I felt a warmth unrelated to the wine.
“To new beginnings and to never letting anyone dull our sparkle!
” Mike’s treachery hurt, without a doubt.
However, it served as a wake-up call. As I looked around at my friends, I realized how fortunate I was.
Because of their love and support, I was able to break free and start over. By leaning over, Karen interrupted my thoughts.
Penny for your consideration?
” I chuckled.
Just thinking about how grateful I am. for all of us, you included.
because I finally had the courage to protect my own interests. She smiled generously at me.
Emma, that bravery has always been yours.
You only required a brief reminder.
The door to the restaurant suddenly swung open, and a tall, respectable-looking man with kind eyes entered. He waved to us after looking around and noticing how much fun our group was having.
Karen gave the wave back. As he made his way to the bar, Karen noticed that I was staring at him and gently prodded me.
Who is that?
I inquired out of curiosity.
I see that’s Alex. She grinned and said, “He’s a frequent visitor, quite endearing, and single.
” Perhaps a brand-new acquaintance to get to know? ” I felt a flutter of excitement.
Perhaps this represented the new beginnings to which everyone was toasting.
