After 40 Years Of Marriage They Decided To Divorce (Heartbreaking Story)

One day, a couple in their 70s shows up to a lawyer’s office to file for divorce.

The attorney was surprised at first, but after talking to them, he could relate to their story.

For the final 40 years of their marriage, this couple argued and never came to a consensus.

To avoid endangering their children’s development, they remained together.

But now that their kids are grown ups and have families of their own, nothing else binds them together.

All they wanted was to live their own lives, free of the grief they had carried around from the years before.

The attorney made an effort to finish the papers but was perplexed as to why the couple persisted in seeking a divorce.

The woman told her husband, “I just can’t go on anymore, even though I absolutely love you,” as she signed the paperwork. “Please accept my sincere regrets.” The spouse said, “I understand.” The attorney offered if they would want to have dinner with him.

They went along, but when they got to the restaurant, there was a protracted awkward silence. They had roasted chicken for their first course.

As soon as it arrived, the man gave his wife the drumstick, adding, “Take this, it’s your favorite.”

After this, the lawyer continued to think they had a chance, but the wife continued, “This is usually the problem.” You never gave my feelings a second thought and always had such high regard for yourself.

“Are you unaware of how much I hate drumsticks?” She was unaware, though, that the husband actually wanted to please her, that his favorite food was drumsticks, and that he only had her best interests in mind.

They both tossed and turned in their beds that night, unable to get any sleep.

The fear of losing her and living the rest of his life apart from her made the man unable to remain silent any longer.

He desired to give her a call to express his continued affection for her.

She never returned his calls when he tried to reach her.

However, she was also filled with sadness as she questioned how, after all these years, he was still unable to comprehend her.

She knew it was him, so she decided there was no purpose in talking longer and just let the phone ring.

She was unaware, though, that he had cardiac issues.

She found out about his passing the following day.

Rushing to his apartment right away, she discovered his lifeless body on the couch, still clutching her phone.

While he was trying to get to her, he had a heart attack.

She felt depressed, but she had to get rid of his stuff.

As she rummaged through the drawers, she discovered an insurance policy that was active as of their wedding day.

She had a beneficiary’s list. Moreover, there was a note that read:

“To my beloved spouse, It’s likely that I won’t be here when you read this. For you, I purchased this policy.

Even though it’s only $100,000, I hope it will be enough to support me in keeping the commitment I made to you when we were married. Even though I might not be here much longer, I want this money to help you in the same way that I would have if I had lived longer. I want you to know that I’ll be here for you no matter what.
