Nope.

She said, “Let’s see.” We got in the vehicle and drove for hours until we were both fatigued, then brought out the map and picked a route home along the shores of one of the United States’ Great Lakes. This was in the 1980s, before GPS and cell phones. I was around ten years old, and she let me navigate home.

She could have just informed me or shown me the map without leaving the couch, but she wanted me to know… and perhaps she wanted to know herself.

Story 12:

My parents migrated to Canada with the sole goal of providing a better life for my brother and myself. A better atmosphere, more chances, and overall improvement.

They abandoned our whole family and friends and relocated here with only the four of us.

They worked really hard for the first several years, earning very little and living in a small apartment in Toronto. Looking back, I’m honestly surprised they didn’t give up and return home, where they had decent careers and plenty of support.

I am so glad they didn’t. My parents’ unwavering love and support have given me all I have and who I am.
